SUMMARY:The 19th Street Band opens for I Draw Slow at The Hamilton
DESCRIPTION:Dublin\, Ireland’s I Draw Slow has already won the adoration of fans in their home country and North America by combining American folk and Irish storytelling traditions with close-harmony vocals\, intriguing instrumentation and compelling subject matter. \nThis time out\, sibling vocalists Dave and Louise Holden\, with Dave on acoustic guitar\, Adrian Hart on violin\, Colin Derham on clawhammer banjo and Konrad Liddy on double bass\, chose to color their blend of vocals and strings with brass and percussion. They also chose to address a theme of loss\, through lyrics that examine both the darker side of human nature and the goodness of redemption. \nThe band first drew attention beyond Ireland’s shores with their 2011 release\, Redhills. Fueled by a prominent Spotify playlist placement and a video suggesting both 1890s bordello and 1920s speakeasy\, the song “Goldmine” became the album’s breakout track. Their follow-up album\, 2014’s White Wave Chapel\, reached No. 2 on Ireland’s iTunes chart\, driven in part by the video for “Valentine\,” which featured Game of Thrones star Aidan Gillen. \nIn the meantime\, they established themselves as festival standouts\, appearing at MerleFest\, Pickathon\, Wintergrass\, RockyGrass\, Grey Fox\, Red Wing\, Edmonton Folk Fest and High Sierra Music Festival to name a few. They’ve also appeared on many radio shows\, including the syndicated “Mountain Stage.” \nTheir energetic live performances and inventive combination of Appalachian and Irish roots music has drawn so much support\, they were able to completely crowd-fund the recording of Turn Your Face to the Sun — which they tracked over one weekend\, camping out in a house in County Wicklow\, Ireland\, with engineer Brian Masterson (U2\, Van Morrison). It captures I Draw Slow at their best — when they’re all together\, separated only by air. \nSpeaking of air\, first-time I Draw Slow listeners ought to be warned: This band very well might take their breath away. And they won’t even mind. \n\n\n\nThe 19th Street Band\n\nLinks\n\n \nCaolaidhe came to America from Holywood\, Northern Ireland in 2005 to pursue a career in music. While establishing an earlier band\, he found himself in need of a fiddle player. As fate would have it\, Meghan (a classical violinist) was working at an Irish pub in DC as a server while teaching music at a nearby public school. Through Caolaidhe’s acquaintances\, he was lucky enough to meet Meghan and quickly auditioned her for the band. What Caolaidhe didn’t know was that he was auditioning his future wife. Fast-forward a few months down the road\, and Meghan and Caolaidhe found themselves living on ’19th Street’ in Arlington\, VA\, writing songs and creating the sound that would become the backbone of The 19th Street Band.\n\n\n\nCharacterized by high energy and strong vocal harmonies\, The 19th Street Band brings to the house a fusion of Americana\, country and rock. Together they ignite an audience with their love for music\, combined with a magnetic passion and enthusiasm. Add to the mix their talented rhythm section\, Patty Dougherty (drums) & Greg Hardin (bass)\, and this band will undoubtedly get you rockin’ & a-rollin’ through the night.\n\n\nThe 19th Street Band has had the honor of sharing the stage with country music stars such as Rodney Atkins\, Craig Morgan\, and Chuck Mead. They have opened for The Wheeler Brothers and Spirit Family Reunion at The Hamilton as well as Grammy Award-winning Western Swing icons\, Asleep at the Wheel\, at The Birchmere. They have also packed the house at such venues as the 9:30 Club\, Black Cat\, Strathmore\, Jammin’ Java\, Rock & Roll Hotel\, Kingman Island Bluegrass Festival\, The Washington Folk Festival\, Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge in Nashville\, The Black Box in Belfast\, and Hill Country BBQ and Pianos in NYC. The 19th Street Band has steadily been performing 230 shows a year for the past 5 years\, and they are recently back from a tour in Northern Ireland\, where they performed live on BBC Radio Ulster and were a part of the Open House Festival in Bangor. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 15\, 2018\n10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – We play 12:15-1:15pm!\nCommunity Center Parking Lot (223 Little Falls St.) and Cherry Hill Park (312 Park Ave.)\n\nThis beloved annual event features include live entertainment\, pony rides\, children’s amusements\, crafters\, businesses and civic organizations\, a Beer Garden\, and cuisine from city kitchens.\nAdmission is free to the public\, but amusement rides\, taste tickets\, and beer require the purchase of one or more tickets.\nThe event is held rain or shine! \nBeer Garden \nThe Beer Garden was a hit last year\, so it’s back! It will once again be located near the entertainment stage and serve a variety of beers from 11:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Anyone can enter the Beer Garden\, but only those with a valid ID 21+ can purchase and consume alcohol. \nProceeds from the Beer Garden will benefit a local non-profit to be announced soon. \nRestaurants\nWe will have a full roster of restaurants ready to satisfy your every craving with small bites of amazing food. Tickets are $3 per “taste” at each restaurant (some tastes may require two tickets).
